I hope that summertime for you is filled with family, friends, vacations, reunions, a break from work, and some relaxation.   Make sure your summer fun includes traveling to Albuquerque for the NCACC annual conference.  It is going to be awesome!  Check out the article in this issue of The Docket penned by Liz Garcia and Colette Bruggman and it will be hard for you not to be excited.

First, at the executive committee meeting in April, the committee passed a motion to present the conference with a bylaw amendment concerning the host clerk’s responsibility of establishing a separate financial account for the income and expenses of the annual meeting. The amendment will be to Article VIII of the bylaws.  In the past, hosts would basically set up a checking account to handle all the expenses and deposits for the annual meeting.  The executive committee believes this rule is antiquated with the onset of our ability to have Cassie Bradshaw (our NCSC administrator) immediately pay invoices and also the establishment of an NCACC debit card that can be used by the host and is tied directly to the NCACC accounts. Oversight of the account is also at the fingertips of the treasurer and Cassie who can monitor money in and out of the account.  A copy of the amended Host Clerk bylaw provision is included in this issue of The Docket.  This constitutes notice of the proposed amendment, and a vote will be taken at the business meeting in Albuquerque.

Second, another important discussion will occur during the business meeting concerning the survey conducted by the strategic planning committee on potentially changing the date/time of year for the annual conferences.  The strategic planning committee conducted a survey of all members BUT WE STILL NEED YOUR PARTICIPATION.  See Greg Hilton’s article in this issue.  Greg will present the results during the business meeting.  If you feel a different time of the year would help attendance at our annual conference, this is the opportunity to voice your opinion.

Lastly, it has been the experience of a lifetime to serve as your President this year.  This role has given me the opportunity to travel the country representing the NCACC on a national level and to show what a great organization we have. Thank you for this opportunity.  I am forever in your debt.

We had an incredible year in NCACC.  There are so many hardworking members of the NCACC that have gone above and beyond the call of duty. I love the NCACC!  I can’t wait to see you all soon in Albuquerque.  I can’t wait to introduce you to NCACC’s newest member, La Bronz, and all of his travels.

Take care. I’m always available for you and for any questions you have regarding the NCACC – doug.shima@kscourts.gov.
