NCACC President Jenny Kitchings

Dear Friends,

In order to write this note to you all, I reflected on the meaning of the NCACC. We seek to improve the administration of appellate courts through outstanding educational conferences, committee activities, publications, and exchanges between members. Well, box checked there…we had a truly outstanding educational conference in Detroit.

We celebrated our 50th anniversary with an incredible slide show and video remembrances from members who could not join us. We heard from a truly exceptional Opperman speaker about the power of positive thinking to help us bounce forward after all the changes the pandemic brought with it. We were challenged to think about artificial intelligence, allyship in the workplace, and avoiding delay as appellate courts. We reviewed best practices for human resource management, learned about data analytics, considered important courthouse security measures, and talked about providing inmates access to e-filing. We worked on team-building, wellbeing, and problem-solving. We were introduced to plain language writing. We took time to talk about issues our courts are facing and connect on the many things we all have in common.

As the weather is starting to turn, so too are we turning to the other parts of our work as members of the NCACC. The committees are hard at work. We are looking forward to hearing from each committee during our Executive Committee meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on October 16-17. Committee work is a great way to stay involved during the year and support our mission of promoting best practices in appellate court administration. This is where the real wealth of our organization shines through—our members are engaged, knowledgeable, and generous. We share information freely through our listserv. You can always reach out and find a helping hand.

Together, we can do great things. I look forward to working with all of you this year!

Warmly,
Jenny
